Announcing compensation of Rs 2 lakhs, CM Yogi Adityanath demands magistrate probe in Hooch Tragedy

Kanpur, May 21: Taking cognizance in the matter of the hooch tragedy where the spurious liquor has raised the death toll to 13, leaving many others ill. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the people undergoing the tragic death.

 

Arresting almost 11 people involved in supplying this spurious alcohol which has led to the death of many in the Kanpur city and neighboring Kanpur Dehat district in the last two days. At least 16 people have taken ill in the two districts due to the consumption of illicit alcohol.

The incident came in the forefront when some of the people were noticed as dead in their houses in Kanpur. Taking action and having a note on the issues pertaining to the same Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma took undue action immediately. According to SSP Akhilesh Kumar, a massive operation was launched against hooch manufacturers, traders, and suppliers in the wake of the incident.
Demanding speedy action against the accused, the residents of Maghaipurwa and Bhanwarpur villages in Kanpur Dehat district on Sunday protested and laid the bodies of victims on road. District Magistrate Rakesh Singh reached the protest site and ordered magisterial probe in the incident.
Regional excise inspector has already been suspended and liquor samples have been sent for testing. Raids have also been inducted to nab the accused. The excise department has also looked into the matter and have seized the shops supplying the forged liquor.
