New Delhi, May 22: There is a big relief for the flyers who are facing many issues like high cancellation charges, no proper refund if the flight is canceled as the Civil Aviation Ministry unveiled the draft passenger charter today.

Speaking to media in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha said, in a major relief to air travelers, if a flight is canceled and it is the airlines' fault, then the passenger will be compensated or ticket will be refunded.

If a flight is delayed, the passenger will be compensated in various ways. Sinha said, the airlines blocking seats for disabled passengers are among various other proposals under the draft.

Another major thing in the draft is there will be no fees if a passenger cancels his ticket within 24 hours of booking and there will be no cancellation charges of ticket 96 hours before travel. The Minister said the provisions of the draft will be effective within 30 to 60 days.

Adding more to the list of reforms, Jayant Sinha said that Digi Yatra has also been facilitated. Users will have to enroll themselves using Aadhaar so it becomes easy for identification and also the passenger can travel paperless or without any printouts. However, Aadhaar is not mandatory.

Airlines were also given guidelines on cancellation charges. For cancellation of tickets, the charges should not be more than the base fare plus the fuel charges. For digital identification, other options will be made available to the flyers. Onboard wifi is most likely to be launched soon.
