Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar denies charges of poll irregularities

Bengaluru, May 23: Refuting the charges of serious poll irregularities levelled by BJP state Chief B S Yeddyurappa, Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka Sanjiv Kumar said that no VVPAT machines were found at Managuli village of Vijayapura district. He further added that strict action will be taken against those who were involved in producing fake VVPAT-carrying cases.

Earlier, former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had shot a letter to EC about the alleged poll irregularities citing the example of Managuli village. As reported by Times of India, the state election officer clarified that VVPAT-carrying boxes were placed to mislead the election machinery. Earlier in the day, state BJP leaders under the leadership of Yeddyurappa staged a protest against the Congress-JD(S) alliance. On this occasion, Yeddyurappa slammed Congress-JD(S) for betraying people's mandate.
