Karnataka assembly: All eyes on speaker’s election; BJP, Congress files nomination

Bengaluru, May 24: Ahead of the crucial floor test in Karnataka assembly, political parties are gearing up for the much-anticipated election for the post of speaker. Senior BJP leader and four-time MLA S Suresh Kumar will be the official candidate of BJP. The former minister had already helmed the responsibility of speaker during 1994-99. Senior Congress leader and Srinivaspur Lawmaker K R Ramesh Kumar will represent JD(S)-Congress alliance.

Yesterday, amidst much fanfare H D Kumaraswamy sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka and Congress’s G Parameshwara took the oath as Dy- Chief Minister. In recently held Karnataka assembly polls, in a bid to spoil the mission Karnataka of BJP, JD(S)-Congress had teamed up and claimed majority with the support of 117 MLAs.
