Powerful dust storm brings disaster in Rajasthan; so far 31 killed and more than 100 others injured

Jaipur, May 3: A powerful dust storm swept in different parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday night due to which at least 31 people were killed while more than 100 others were injured.

 

However, on Thursday morning Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed grief over the calamity and said that the authorities concerned in districts have been directed to ensure all possible help to victims. "Condolence for families who lost their loved ones," she said on Twitter.


Notably, a powerful dust storm swept in different parts of Rajasthan last night due to which 31 people were killed and more than 100 others were injured. The dust storm has wreaked havoc in several districts including Bharatpur, Alwar and Dholpur and left a trail of destruction, uprooting hundreds of trees and electricity poles.

On the other side, houses collapsed, electricity poles and trees were uprooted as the severe dust storm swept the Matysya region. Most of the victims were sleeping in their homes as their roofs collapsed in the storm. According to the Disaster Management, 40 mud huts were burnt after lighting struck a village in Dholpur district while maximum damage was caused in Bharatpur district where 12 deaths have been reported.

The Secretary, Disaster Management and Relief, Hemant Kumar Gera said that the death toll is likely to rise. "We have sent one team each to all three districts. The dust storm has been declared a disaster under the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) norms. We will give an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs to the families of dead and immediate relief of Rs. 4,300 each to those admitted in hospitals," he added.
