Jotting down ways to tackle adversities, Maharashtra CM approves State Disaster Management Plan for 2018

Mumbai, May 30: Setting the state ready for the much-awaited monsoon season, the Maharashtra government has jotted down ways to tackle the difficulties. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday approved the state's Disaster Management Plan for the year 2018 during a meeting on monsoon preparedness.

 

Heading the meeting, CM Fadnavis emphasized on proper coordination among agencies, proper dissemination of information to citizens and issuing alerts in time. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said that Fadnavis has directed the meteorology department to ensure that the government and other agencies get alerts for heavy rainfall days so that they can be prepared to handle the onslaught.

 

Senior ministers Chandrakant Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar along with senior officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, the State Disaster Management Authority, the Indian Meteorological Department and state and civic bodies were present at the meeting.

 

In the meeting, Fadnavis directed that ongoing work on infrastructure projects like Metro, road repairs, and construction of flyovers be brought to a safe stage by the end of this month and necessary warnings are put up on the same.

 

Presenting a well systematic presentation BMC claimed that they have identified 225 spots that are prone to flooding and has taken due precautionary steps in 120 of these spots. The BMC officials said that CM Fadnavis was informed that the BMC has installed CCTVs in these flood-prone locations and they will be keeping a watch over these spots to ensure that steps are taken to avoid waterlogging. KS Ghosalikar, Deputy Director, Meteorological Department, said during the presentation that monsoons have arrived in Kerala.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority meeting approved the State Disaster Management Plan 2018 and the Drought Management Plan and District Disaster Management Plan were approved, too.
