Linking ties through roads: India-Nepal connecting strongly through financial assistance on highway projects

New Delhi, May 30: Strengthening the connectivity between India and Nepal, India has released 33 points 10 Crore rupees to Nepal towards the cost of two road packages of Birgunj-Thori Road. This project is being implemented under Postal Highway Projects in Nepal with Government of India’s grant assistance.

Dr. Ajay Kumar, Deputy Chief of Mission in the Indian Embassy, handed over a cheque of the grant to Madhusudan Adhikari, Secretary, and Ministry for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Nepal, in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The amount has been released towards 25% of the tendered cost (including 10% mobilization advance) of the Postal Highway Projects.

 

With this payment, the Government of India has released a total of INR 117.63 Crores to the Government of Nepal for implementing 14 packages of the Postal Highway Projects. So far, construction of two roads of Hulaki Rajmarg (i) Dhangadhi-Bhajaniya-Satti road & (ii) Lamki-Tikapur-Khakraula road has been completed with Government of India’s grant assistance worth NRs 1020 million which were inaugurated on 19 January 2017.

 

Since 1950, the Government of India has been supporting infrastructure development of Nepal and has provided financial assistance for construction of various Highways, Roads, Bridges, Airports, etc. as part of its multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

India-Nepal relations have increased and grown with the changing time, standing by each other during the tough times, both the countries have supported each other. Connected culturally and historically, India-Nepal shares a close bond leading and developing in a strong future base for both the countries.
