Despite conditional ceasefire, two terrorists attacked Army in Handwara district of JK; eliminated successfully

Jammu, May 31: It has been two weeks since the conditional ceasefire was announced by the central government in Jammu and Kashmir, but terrorists carrying ‘Napak’ intentions continue to rock the valley. Notably, security forces on Wednesday overnight eliminated two unknown terrorists in a fierce gun battle that took place at Kralgund in Handwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Indian Army personnel successfully killed two terrorists in an overnight encounter at Kralgund area of Handwara district. The encounter began after the terrorists opened fire upon patrolling party of army's 32 RR in the forest area of Qaziabad in Kralgund. Army immediately retaliated which resulted in an encounter and two unidentified terrorists were eliminated.

However, the exchange of gunfire continued for some time and the operation was later suspended due to darkness. The body of two slain terrorists along with as many AK 47 rifles and other warlike stores were recovered during the search operation in the area today morning. The identities and the group affiliation of the slain terrorists are being ascertained, it seems that the duo killed in the operation are Pakistanis.

In another incident last evening, terrorists fired upon Police Station at Rajpora area in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. This was the third consecutive evening when terrorists targeted the Police station in the area. Terrorists fled after the retaliatory fire by the police.

Last week, security forces shot dead five terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Tangdhar sector. While on May 18, three Pakistani terrorists were eliminated n a fierce gun battle that took place near the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

In a bid to eradicate terrorists and terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian security forces were given free hand. Looking at the holy month of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra, Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced a conditional ceasefire to stop anti-terror operation on May 16 this year.

Earlier, CM Mufti made a plea for a unilateral ceasefire by security forces in Kashmir following the killing of a Chennai tourist by stone-pelting protesters in Kashmir in the aftermath of the May 7 Shopian encounter. Last week, security forces busted a terror module of Hizbul Mujahideen involved in hawala transactions in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir and arrested at least four people, including a former terrorist.

BACKGROUND:

Indian security forces have led a massive war against terrorism and terrorists in the inner parts of Jammu-Kashmir and forward areas. Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that more than 206 terrorists were eliminated by Indian troops last year.
