New Delhi, May 4: A group of intellectuals and academicians (GIA) called on the MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh and handed over their report on the much publicised Kathua rape case involving a minor girl.

The GIA delegation claimed that the chargesheet filed by the Jammu & Kashmir police in this case had some major flaws and glaring lpases and the investigation was botched –up.

The GIA team met over 25 people including the family members of the victim girl and influential people from the Bakarwal community and others to gather the facts, said GIA convener Monica Arora.

Arora said that there are ‘discrepancies in the charge sheet’ filed by the Crime Branch of the Jammu & Kashmir police in this case and the entire investigation was botched-up. Therefore, the GIA demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI so that a free and fair investigation of this case can be done by the central agency, she said.

A minor girl from the Bakarwal community was allegedly kidnapped, drugged, gang-raped and killed in January. The incident came to light after a couple of months and the J & K police were given the responsibility to investigate the case.

According to the charge sheets filed by the crime branch, the abduction, rape and killing of the girl was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the nomadic community from the area. A separate charge sheet was filed for the juvenile, who is accused in this case.

However, doubts were raised over the biased approach of the crime branch police and some television news channels have run a detail report on how the investigation by the Crime Branch of J & K police was one sided and aimed at fixing some people of a particular community in this incident.

Dr Jitendra Singh after receiving the report said that the free and fair and transparent investigation will be done in this case to bring the real culprits to book and punish them.
