IMD issues warning of severe dust storm in Rajasthan; state authorities on alert

New Delhi, May 4: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of another dust storm in some parts of Rajasthan in the next 36 hours. The alert from IMD comes a day after a powerful dust storm swept in different parts of Rajasthan due to which at least 45 people were killed while more than 100 others were injured.

 

The IMD said in a statement said, “In Rajasthan also high-intensity winds and dust storm may occur in eastern and western parts.” However, it had also issued a warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy rain in several parts of countries including Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha.

Immediately after the warning was raised by IMD, the Rajasthan government directed concerned authorities to ensure all possible help to the people. On Wednesday late night, a powerful dust storm swept in different parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday night due to which at least 45 people were killed while more than 100 others were injured.

 

The dust storm has wreaked havoc in several districts including Bharatpur, Alwar and Dholpur and left a trail of destruction, uprooting hundreds of trees and electricity poles. On the other side, houses collapsed, electricity poles and trees were uprooted as the severe dust storm swept the Matysya region. PM Narendra Modi, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi have expressed grief over the loss of lives.
