India, Gautemala join hands aiming to strengthens diplomatic cooperation

Gautemala, May 8: Strengthening the bilateral relation in South American Nations, Vice President first visit to Gautemala has seen fruitful results. Signing two Memorandum of Understanding VP Naidu and his Guatemala counterpart, Jafeth Cabrera Franco in Guatemala city, both countries took a step forward for development and progress.

The pact has been signed between India and Guatemala for strengthening diplomatic cooperation through Respective Foreign Service Institutes in the educational field. Along with this VP Naidu also held meeting with the Guatemala President and others on various bilateral and international issues.

Informing about the agreements signed between both countries, VP tweeted saying, “Witnessing, along with the Vice President of Guatemala, the singing of two MoUs between India and Guatemala in the area of Diplomatic coordination and Training, after bilateral discussions, in Guatemala today.”

He further added that the Indian philosophy has been accepted internationally by wide and greater perspective in all over the world for its relevance in our day to day life. The organization of International Day of Yoga was an initiative of the present Government in India, which was accepted by the entire world.

 

Later, the Guatemalan Vice President hosted a lunch in honour of Vice President Naidu. The latter was seen trying his hands in playing Guatemala's traditional musical instrument, 'Miramba' at the Presidential Palace in Guatemala City.

Earlier, the two leaders participated in bilateral discussions where agreements in areas like culture, agriculture and wildlife protection were under consideration between both the countries. He added that Guatemala was one of India's important trading partners in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.

Vice President Naidu further stressed that there was a tremendous scope for intensifying bilateral trade and investment partnership in pharmaceutical, automobile, textile and apparel, education, Information Technology (IT), infrastructural-building and port development sectors.

Earlier, Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, while stressing on his agenda of maintaining strong bilateral ties with the country. He also met the President of the Congress of Guatemala Alvaro Arzu Escobar.

Guatemala is the first country that Vice President Naidu is visiting in his present capacity and it is the highest level visit between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972.

Vice President Naidu is on a five-day visit to Latin America's Guatemala, Peru and Panama commencing from May 6. This is the Vice President's first overseas visit after assuming office last year.
