GST will reduce fuel tariffs: Nitin Gadkari

Pune, June 1: Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari reiterated that fuel should be brought under the ambit of GST. He was addressing the media interaction organized on the completion of four years of Modi government. Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had pitched the same idea to regulate the tariffs of petrol and diesel.

The Minister opined that implementation of GST for crude oil will tone down the abrupt price rise. Gadkari admitted that people are facing problems due to fuel price hike, the Minister assured that central government will take all possible steps to mitigate the issue. He announced that within six months, the central government will launch ethanol and electric driven eco-friendly vehicles in the market.

Later, Gadkari today called on Nationalist Congress Party President and former Union Minister Sharad Pawar at Pune. The Minister apprised Pawar about the ongoing broad-gauge metro project in Nagpur.

Maha Metro, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is looking after the ambitious project of Nagpur Metro It is a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra. The same establishment has been roped in for Pune metro. An ambitious venture of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the first phase of Nagpur metro will be completed by December 2109.
