Singapore, June 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a joint press statement with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Singapore, on his second day of his tour after high-level bilateral talks.


 

A gamut of strategic, economic and technological issues figured during their talks. Several MoUs were signed. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Singapore's PM and said he has always made untiring efforts towards strengthening relations with India.

PM Modi said during the Joint Session, “Yesterday evening, the roundtable with CEOs of Singapore's important companies I was very pleased to see their trust towards India. Air traffic between India and Singapore has been growing steadily. Both sides will soon begin reviewing the bilateral Air Services Agreement.”

“The Rupay, BHIM, and UPI-based remittance app show the spirit of innovation of international launch Digital India and our partnership yesterday evening in Singapore” he further added.

 

PM Modi also said, “I also welcome the logistics agreement between navies, keeping in mind the frequent practices and naval collaboration. Cybersecurity and dealing with extremism and terrorism in the coming time will be a key area of our cooperation.”

“We have both reaffirmed their theoretical views on maritime security and have shown their commitment to Rules-based Order. We have also agreed on the need to maintain open, stable and reasonable international trade regimes” said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister was accorded ceremonial welcome at Istana, the official residence of Singapore President.

After the bilateral talks, India and Singapore signed and exchanged agreements and MoUs in areas of higher education, capacity building, defence, urban infrastructure, people to people contacts among other things followed by a joint statement.

 

He also called on Singapore President Halimah Yakub and will visit Nanyang Technical University and interact with Students. Later, PM Modi will deliver the keynote address in the 18th Shangri La dialogue, a global platform that discusses security-related issues in the Asia Pacific region.

PM Modi who is the first Indian leader to deliver a keynote address at this international forum, is likely to the emphasis on India’s perspective on security concerns in this region.

He is expected to focus on geopolitical issues in the region, particularly highlight the role that India could play in stabilizing the security of Asia and its waters.
