Continuous rainfall creates havoc keeping Manipur on high flood alert

Imphal, June 13: As the entire country still waits to receive the much-awaited rainfall, parts of India are under the sway of heavy rainfall. The state of Manipur has been under high flood alert creating havoc and disturbing the normal life of people. Flash flood due to incessant rain has inundated low lying areas of the valley districts including state capital Imphal.

Secretariat relief and disaster management department has declared alert of floods and landslides with the prediction of heavy to very heavy rain at few places with extremely heavy rain at some isolated places of Manipur. The declaration states that the rainfall may continue till June 15 as per the Indian meteorological department. The IMD has instructed all the deputy commissioners to take up precautionary measures.

 

The incessant rainfall has created much havoc in many parts of Manipur triggering landslides and inundating low lying areas. The landslide has also created traffic on the national Highway blocking by debris. However, the traffic has been taken off and safety measures have also been taken for swift movement of vehicles.

 

Flood water has overflowed at some parts of the riverbanks of the major rivers like Nambul, Iril and Imphal Rivers. This has led to submerge of many government offices, schools and human inhabited areas in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal Districts. Disaster management department has issued alert for flood and landslide. 
It has also predicted heavy rain at many places in the state.
