Incessant rainfall creates havoc in Tripura, relief camps run for rescue

Agartala, June 13: The North East regions are under the sway of heavy rainfall leading to disruption in lives of people. Incessant rain in Tripura has disrupted normal life. MeT department said that heavy rain is likely to occur in next 24 hours at isolated places in the state. Over 3,400 families have been rendered homeless in Tripura as heavy rains hit the state during the past 24 hours
Although the rainfall has come to a halt, the families in Tripura have been evacuated to relief camps. The State Emergency Operation Centre officials informed that more than 3400 families affected by water logging in low lying areas have taken shelter in 64 relief camps across the state.
Having a cognizance on the situation, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has departed from Agartala for inspecting flood relief work. The Chief Minister tweeted saying, “I request all my fellow citizens residing in low lying areas to move to safer places. The government of Tripura firmly stands with you in this hour of need.”
Reviewing the situation for the flood relief work, the state has already set up 76 relief camps across where more than 13,000 people and have taken shelter. Teams from NDRF, Assam Rifles and other Central & State Govt. agencies are fully engaged in relief work.
NDRF and TSR personnel are working in coordination with the respective district administrations to render help to the affected families, adding there was no report of human casualty but, damage to crops was extensive. The Chief Minister further requested the public representatives to work in coordination and monitor and assist the situation and relief work.
