Gujarat bags FICCI India’s Smart policing award

New Delhi, June 14: Gujarat government’s Pocket Cop Mobile Application, a digital platform for criminal investigation and prosecution has bagged FICCI India’s Smart policing award 2018. On Wednesday, Union Minister Vijay Goel gave away the award to Gujarat Police. Among 200 nominations across the country, Pocket Cop application has been selected under the category of smart policing.

In order to improve the conviction rate, Gujarat police introduced the digital platform called Pocket Cop Project, under which 4900 smartphones have been linked with real-time information of 68 lakh criminals. On April 17, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had launched the innovative application as a part of police modernization under the banner of E-Gujarat. The digital platform deals with criminal records and other essential information.

The application is being used to Fast-track the process of passport verification, reducing manual intervention. According to state officials, with Pocket Cop Mobile Application near about 58378 applications have been processed and 9300 criminal cases have been tackled.
