“India is a fast growing economy”, says Prez Kovind inciting Greece to look forward on investing in the country

Athens, June 19: “India is one of the fast-growing economies in the world and it has shown its presence at the global dais through various sectors,” opined President Ram Nath Kovind during his last day on his Greece visit.

Chairing the Indo- Greek Business Forum in Athens, President Kovind said that India has upgraded and expanded its infrastructure including roads, airports, waterways, and ports. He further said it has tremendous scope in agriculture produce, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology and start-ups. Along with this, he also said that India has introduced GST to facilitate the industry.

 

Pointing out at the relations that India and Greece hail; President Kovind said that both the countries have ancient civilization. Our economic, trade and cultural engagement go back over 2500 years. There was flourishing trade network between Greece and port-towns in India as early as the 3rd century BC.

Bringing forward the developments of the government Prez Kovind said that India has repealed over 1400 outdated laws and both the Central and State governments have undertaken over 10,000 measures to make it easier for business to establish and grow. We have jumped 42 places in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index in the last 4 years.

 

Aiming to create a trillion dollar economy by the year 2025, he said that the Foreign Direct Investment of India has risen on a large scale. To boost manufacturing and Make in India initiative, there have been many path-breaking reforms. The most transformative of them has been the introduction of GST which makes India into a single unified tax market for the first time in its modern history.

 

The President also said that the country has accepted Greece’s invitation to be the “Honoured Country” at the Thessaloniki International Fair, Greece’s flagship business event, to be held in September 2019. With this, the relations of the country will give a major boost to the bilateral trade.

 

The President urged the Greek shipping, agriculture, food processing, tourism, infrastructure, technology, defense and Start-up companies to look at investment and technology tie-up openings in India.

The President who is on a three-nation tour to Greece, Suriname, and Cuba, is accompanied by a delegation including Minister of state for steel, Vishnu Sri Sai and two Members of Parliament.
