New Delhi, June 19: From Congress to local parties, each and every opposition party showcased their solidarity with the family of University of Hyderabad (UoH) research scholar Rohith Vemula and gained publicity. Big faces of politics including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati expressed their grief sorrow, agony and paid condolences to Rohith Vemula in front of national media to earn votes of Dalit and other small castes and to attack on PM Modi. They may have earned some votes but when it came upon them to help Vemula’s family no one turned up.

You may have heard this quote very often “USE AND THROW”. Various political parties including Congress, BSP, TMC etc gave a massive hype to the death of Rohith Vemula certifying him as a ‘Dalit’ and blamed BJP-led central government for his suicide. Notably, Rohith was found hanging in a hostel room on campus in January 2016 after which opposition sparked and spread false outrage across the country.

Every opposition party used Rohith’s suicide to create political outrage against BJP and tried to gain votes but when it came to help his family, no one turned up. From Rahul Gandhi to Mayawati expressed their fake grief and disappeared. It’s been over two years to Rohith suicide, but his family is still in wait of financial assistance.

Two years before, Rohith’s family was promised a house by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) but not fulfilled yet. The family of Rohith is still waiting for full compensation.

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had promised Rohith’s mother Radhika Vemula that they would sanction Rs 20 lakh towards building a house for the family, but it is yet to be fulfilled. Speaking to the local media, Radhika Vemula said, "When Rohith died, I was just crying in the velivada and I had no idea about all the people coming and greeting me. At this time, these party members came from Kerala and said that they heard the news and heard that we were absolutely poor."

While alleging IUML Radhika Vemula said, “They took me to Kerala and made us participate in a big meeting with around 30,000 to 40,000 people and promised that they would sanction Rs 20 lakh and construct a house for us.” “This was only to earn political mileage and nothing else,” she added.

She said that IUML made promises to her many times but all were false. “They never fulfilled their promises,” she added. Radhika further claimed that she was ignored repeatedly when asked about the cheque.

Radhika also narrated one instance where several politicians, seemingly from the same party, visited her in Guntur and took photos with a big white cheque that had Rs 25 lakh printed in bold letters. "I learnt later that they went to Kerala and claimed that they had given me the money. Why should we leave them? Finally, after many women's organisation and activists repeatedly put pressure on them, they sent two cheques by courier worth Rs 2.5 lakh each," Radhika said.

Even out of the two cheques, Radhika claims that one of them has bounced, which is forcing her to repeatedly visit the bank. "Why are they troubling me so much. They can just call me and hand it over, instead of sending it in this manner, in installments and by courier. If they don't want to give, they can say that openly as well, instead of harassing us in this way," she concluded.
