New Delhi, June 2: Moving on and strengthening the military ties between India and China, the Chinese Defense Ministry has announced the visit of its military delegation to India as a follow up to the informal summit between PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.

In a major melt in the strained military-to-military relations between India and China, the first visit by a Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) delegation to India following last year's Doklam stand-off has been announced by China.

Following the Wuhan consensus, the PLA has now confirmed that a border delegation of its Western Theatre Command, which is responsible for the India border, will visit India.

Announcing the decision to let the Chinese delegation visit India, Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang, the Defence Ministry Spokesperson in Beijing said that both the countries India and China share important relations as both are important Asian countries.

The border-related exchanges between the two sides at different levels will help to strengthen the management and control of border areas. They will also help to build trust between the field troops of the two sides and translate the consensus reached by the two heads of state into real actions. The two sides are also in contact with each other regarding other cooperation programs. We will release relevant information in due course.

China had adjourned the defense exchanges with India following the 72-day border stand-off, which ended on August 28. Both sides reaffirmed the need to resume military ties when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping at an 'informal' summit in Wuhan, China on April 28 and 29. There, both leaders issued 'strategic guidance' to the two militaries to ensure peace and serenity on the borders and agreed to soon operationalize a hotline between the DGMOs of the two sides.
