"Differences must not be allowed to become disputes": PM Modi shares mantra at Shangri-La Dialogue to tackle Indo Pacific region

Singapore, June 2: After having a virtuous interactive session with the students at the Nanyang Technical University, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a collective to tackle emerging challenges related to international waters in Indo-Pacific region.

Being the first Prime Minister to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, PM Narendra Modi gave his insights on the challenges pertaining to tackle the international waters in the Indo Pacific region. PM Modi suggested five principles for co-existence of nations namely Respect, Dialogue, Co-operation, Peace, and Prosperity.

Addressing the keynote at the Shangri-La Dialogue, PM Modi shared his thoughts saying that, India had the opportunity to host the 10 ASEAN leaders on Republic Day in January. The ASEAN summit was a roadmap to share our commitment and make strong the East Act Policy. Looking up at the East, the Indians have shown a positive outlook for the East and Singapore has shown that the country has stood by its principle and has stood literately strong without overpowering the other nations. The respect they have shown for others give away a strong voice on the international platform.

 

Presenting India at the Shangri-La Dialogue, PM Modi said that their aim is to transform India to a New India by the year 2022, a country which will be seen by the world in completely different format its 75th year of Independence. Indo-Pacific region is not seen by India as a strategy to combine with nations.

 

Regarding the challenges to tackle issue related to Indo-Pacific, PM Modi said that the solutions cannot be found behind walls of protection, but in embracing change. He further said that Asia of the rivalry will hold us all back. Asia of cooperation will shape this century. Competition is normal. But, contests must not turn into conflicts; differences must not be allowed to become disputes.

 
 

Talking about the Indian Ocean, PM Modi said that it has changed the Indian history and it now holds the key to our future. South East Asia is our neighbor by land and sea. With each Southeast Asian country, we have growing political, economic and defense ties.

 

Speaking on the relations with Japan PM Modi said that our ties with Japan – from economic to strategic – have been completely transformed. It is a partnership of great substance and purpose that is a cornerstone of India’s Act East Policy. 

Giving visions on the relationship that India hails with the US, he said that India’s global strategic partnership with the US continues to deepen across the extraordinary breadth of our relationship; Indo-Pacific Region an important pillar of this partnership. India and China are the world’s two most populous countries and among the fastest growing major economies. Our cooperation is expanding, trade is growing.
