Bengaluru/ Chennai, June 2: Expressing displeasure over Superstar Rajanikanth’s statement on the issue of Cauvery, Pro-Kannada outfits has demanded a complete ban on actor’s upcoming movie Kaala in Karnataka. According to media reports, several social groups have requested Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce not to allow the screening of Kaala which is slated to release on June 7. These groups are annoyed with the stand of actor where he had backed the constitution of Cauvery management board for the implementation of the verdict given by Supreme Court.

Reacting to the development, newly appointed Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that state government will take the final call on Kaala’s Karnataka release. As quoted by Indian Express, the Chief Minister mentioned that people of Karnataka are unwilling to welcome Rajinikanth’s movie. Recently, the actor turned politician had requested Karnataka government to release Tamil Nadu’s legitimate share of Cauvery water. Irked with the remarks of Rajani, Pro-Kannada organizations have decided to boycott the movie of Rajinikanth.

This is not the first time Kannada activists are opposing Rajinikanth’s outing. In 2008, his film Kuselan was stalled over his fiery remarks on Kannadigas. Later he had to tender an apology for the same. Similarly, another actor turned politician Kamal Haasan might encounter with the same problem for his aggressive Cauvery river board campaign Haasan’s controversial yet much anticipated Vishwaroopam 2 will hit the screens probably in August.

In 2017, SS Rajamauli’s magnum opus series Baahubali had to face the wrath of Kannada activist over actor Sathyaraj’s old comment against Karnataka. After the emotional appeal of director Rajamauli in Kannada, activist cleared the way for Baahubali’s release.
