Want to know when you might die? Google can answer your query

California, June 20: It is said that birth and death is in God’s hands. No one can predict that when a person will die or will take birth. But this can be proved partially wrong as Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon be predicting a person’s death with 95% percent accuracy.

 

Google has unveiled a new AI which it believes can predict if and when a patient is going to die more reliably than doctors. The algorithm can quickly access a patient’s medical records for important data which could indicate the likelihood of their survival.

Google’s algorithm is clearly not perfect, but it was over twice as accurate as the doctors. Over time it will undoubtedly improve as it’s exposed to more data. The medical experts confirmed that they were very surprised that Google was able to work faster than any other technology and gave an accurate answer before the given time frame. Many hospitals and doctors have tried coming up with better electronic health devices that would help them. But all the existing methods are very expensive and time-consuming.

Example for this is that in May, Google scientists published the account of a woman who came to hospital with late stage breast cancer and fluid building in her lungs. After the hospital equipment and computers took the woman’s vital signs, it estimated that she had a 9.3 per cent chance of dying during her stay at the hospital.

Then it was Google’s turn. Its neural network, a type of artificial intelligence that can analyse huge reams of data and automatically learn and improve, was fed 175,639 data points on the woman including past health records and her current vital signs. It delivered a decidedly more grim prediction, calculating the woman had a 19.9 per cent chance of dying during her stay.

She reportedly passed away a couple days later.
