Sigh of relief and gratification! Manipur to build 20 to 30 houses for people due to flood

Imphal, June 21: While the incessant rains have triggered havoc in the state of Northeast regions, the people have become homeless and have been taken to relief camps. Asserting to control the situation and make undue arrangements for the people of the state, Manipur government decided to build 20 to 30 houses in each of the 60 Assembly constituencies for people whose homes were destroyed in the recent floods.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh informed this to media persons in Imphal while interacting with the representatives of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Representatives of IOC had come to donate 500 cylinders to the flood-affected people as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Chief Minister said, almost 2 lakh people have been affected due to the flash floods triggered by torrential rain. Taking cognizance of the situation, CM Biren earlier cited that there are many villages which are still underwater and the opening of relief camps are undertaken for the safety. Besides this, not only the normal life but the farms and crops have also been disrupted because of the heavy rainfall. However, the government will compensate their best through the local MLAs and concerned DCs.

Visiting various other places the Chief Minister also claimed that there is a need to have more attention on the medical facilities, sanitation measures, and drinking water availability. Having a telephonic conversation with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Manipur CM Nongthombom Biren briefed him about the current flood situation in the State and urged him to extend immediate assistance for the flood victims.
