Chennai, June 21: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a meeting of the Cauvery Management Authority, to settle down the pending issues between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

In an official letter, the Chief Minister opined that immediate intervention of central government would ensure the availability of the water for Tamil Nadu.

Referring to media reports, Palaniswami claimed that Karnataka government want to defer the operation of the Cauvery Management board constituted under the direction of the Supreme Court. Palaniswami took serious objections to Karnataka’s opposition to Cauvery Management board.

Expressing concern over the reported delay in the functioning of Cauvery body, the Chief Minister requested Prime Minister to take effective steps in resolving the ongoing deadlock in the interests of the farmers.

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy also met Prime Minister Modi and expressed reservations about provisions of Cauvery Management Board. On June 15, Karnataka government had released 20,000 cusecs from the Kabini dam to Tamil Nadu.
