Reining on top, Indian Shooter Saurabh Chaudhary creates world record clinching gold at ISSF World Cup

Suhl, June 27: Setting a new world record, 16-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary grabbed gold at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. Saurabh Chaudhary shot a total of 243.7 in the 10m air pistol event.

 

Shooting high on success note, Chaudhary who hails from Uttar Pradesh earned his 8th gold medal for India. He concluded the prestigious meet final with a score of 243.7 after 24 shots, 4.1 points clear of Korean shooter Lim Hojin (239.6), who won the silver. Chinese Wang Zhehao walked away with the bronze medal with a total score of 218.7.

Saurabh Chaudhary had snatched the record from China’s Wang Zhehao, who had shot 242.5 at the first ISSF Junior World Cup of the year in Sydney. Falling short of the podium, another finalist from India Anmol Jain finished fourth with a total of 199.6 points. Chaudhary had finished third with a score of 583, just ahead of Jain at 580 at the qualification round.

Sighting the women’s 25m pistol final, Manu Bhaker finished fifth with 19 hits, and Devanshi Rana was 8th with 5 hits. The trio of Chaudhary, Anmol, and Abhishek Arya stood first in the 10m air pistol team event with a combined score of 1730, while the team of Arjun Singh Cheema, Gaurav Rana, and Udhayveer Sidhu finished third.

In December last year, Chaudhary had qualified for the Youth Olympics Games with a gold medal and a junior world record at Asia Youth Olympics Games qualification. With eight gold medals, one silver, and five bronze, India continued to top the medal standings.
