Srinagar, June 29: Security forces on Friday gunned down one terrorist after a fierce encounter that took place in the Kachema forests of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The body of slain terrorist has been recovered from the encounter spot along with arms and ammunition. However, the search operation is still on.

 

Security forces including the joint team of army and Jammu and Kashmir police led a join operation and cordoned off the Kachema forests of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir after getting a specific input of presence of some terrorists.

During the search operation, army patrol party noticed the movement of some terrorists in the forests in the wee hours of Friday. As the army challenged them, an encounter broke out in the area resulting in the killing of one unknown terrorist. The body of slain terrorist has been recovered from the encounter spot along with arms and ammunition.


The combing operation is still on in the forests of Kupwara. The identity is yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, terrorists hurled a grenade at an army patrolling party in Shopian’s Ahgam, injuring two Jawans. Their condition is stated to be stable. The area has been cordoned off and security forces have launched a search operation.


Importantly, the encounter comes a week after central government deployed a team of National Security Guards (NSG) in Srinagar amidst report of terror attacks on Amarnath Yatra. Last week, as many as four terrorists belonged to Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) were eliminated in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district.
