Banks in queue of frauds: CBI charge sheets 2 ex-CMDs of Canara bank for loan default of 146 crore

New Delhi, June 29: Earlier there was people's queue in banks, now banks are in the queue of fraud. Now the new name added to the list is of Canara Bank. The CBI has filed a charge sheet against two former chairman cum managing directors of the Canara Bank in connection with alleged loan default of 146 crore rupees by Jatin Mehta of Winsome Diamonds and has also sought a Red Corner Notice against the jeweler.

 

Mehta is absconding and believed to have got St Kitts passport. The Charge sheet is filed in Special CBI Court in Mumbai.

CBI Spokesperson said in New Delhi that the charge sheet is against 21 accused which includes Jatin Mehta, his company, his wife beside 15 public servants.

The public servants charge-sheeted by the agency includes former CMDs Avinash Chander Mahajan and Sunder Rajan Raman.

Former executive director of the bank, Archana Bhargava, has also been named by the agency in its charge sheet.

Recently ICICI Bank’s Chief Executive Chanda Kochhar went on leave until the internal inquiry into charges of favoritism and impropriety is concluded. In its replacement, Sandeep Bakshi, group’s life insurance head is carrying out the functions.

And also the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pune police arrested some top officials of Bank of Maharashtra, including its CEO and Managing Director Ravindra Marathe, in connection with the over 3,000-crore rupee fraud case against DSK group accused of cheating thousands of its depositors.
