Islamabad, June 30: If someone tells you that you have only 10 to 12 days water left with you then? it perspires the government authorities. Whether the developed nations like the USA, Japan etc or developing nations like us, Pakistan etc, water scarcity weakens the pillars of administration. Same is the situation of Pakistan when Senate Standing Committee on Capital Administration and Development on Friday was shocked to know that Islamabad only has water reserves for 10 or 15 more days if it did not rain in the next few days.

The once flourishing Rawal Lake in Islamabad has dried up almost entirely, according to images circulating on social media.

The artificial lake, which is a reservoir responsible for providing water to Rawalpindi and Islamabad, gets its water from the Korang River and other small streams. Mismanagement by the government, lack of rain and illegal settlements coming in the way of the catchment area are being blamed for its current condition.

“We are taking every possible step to meet the water demand of the city but we need several rain spells or the water shortage will worsen coming days,” said director water supply, Nasir Jamil Butt.
