Mumbai, June 30: Social Media is something that if you use responsibly then it’s one the best thing But if used irresponsibly you end up in the cobweb of trolls, a vicious circle of negativity and ultimately leave yourself isolated as it has pros and cons too. Today on the ‘Social Media Day’ let us make a resolution to use it for something benefits rather than a deficit.

In India, social media has spread its roots in not only urban but in rural areas also where people use Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram etc but do they use it for something which can help someone in any way?

In the morning, as we wake up we see a number of forwarded pictures and messages just wishing ‘Good Morning’ mostly on Whatsapp. In our country, nearly 20 billion messages flow from mobile to mobile for such kind of forwards. Is social media just for posting your selfies, or your trips’ pictures and unnecessary statuses? Here are the dos and don’ts you should keep in mind before using social media

Dos:

Spreading factual information: Social media is the best platform to spread information but do spread factual information which can add to someone’s knowledge bucket.

Connecting people: keep this in mind that social media connects people but the ‘cons’ part says that it can isolate you as well because, for example, you are talking with hundreds on Whatsapp but the people around you physically get disconnected as your attention is diverted from them. So using Social media at right tie, right place will play an important role.

Hold authentic profile: In our country, it has been observed that one ‘Personality’ holds more than one profiles with different names, profile pictures etc which is very common. So holding an authentic profile is a license of responsibility.

Donts:

Don’t spread fake rumors: Fake rumors are such kind of virus which can corrupt your brain’s software. People send each other forwards which spread rumors like death news of the people who are alive, dangerous rays to be passed in midnight etc. so avoid spreading such rumors.

Don’t believe in what you read: It is not at all necessary that the messages you read will be correct and true.

Don’t accept any friend requests you don’t know: there are many who just have the habit to increase their number of followers and to achieve that they start sending requests to anyone. So beware before you accept any.
