Thoothukudi violence: Retired High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan to meet injured activists

Chennai, June 4: Retired High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan, who is heading the probe panel of Thoothukudi violence is all set to meet the injured activists at the government hospital. Speaking to the media, the retired High Court judge said that statements will be recorded in order to investigate the matter of violent protest.

The committee chief assured that all arrangements will be made for those people who can’t come to Court. A special legal team will take care of such people, she added. When asked about the alleged unedited video during the protest, Jagadeesan appealed media to provide details about Thoothukudi clash within a week.

On May 22, Some locals were staging a protest against the proposed Sterlite factory in Thoothukudi. Protestors locked horn with police when they were not allowed to march towards the plant. The protest turned violent after 13 people were killed and more than 65 people injured in police firing. Superstars like Rajanikanth and Kamal Haasan had condemned the violence and demanded the closure of Sterlite factory.

Following the development, the state government had appointed Retired High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate the case of Thoothukudi firing. Later, Tamil Nadu government canceled the project of Vedanta group, anticipating the law and order situation in the state.
