Brussels, June 6: G7 leaders will call on North Korea on Friday to get rid of its nuclear weapons if it wants sanctions against the country to be lifted.

A senior European Union official said on Tuesday. The G7 comprises the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, France, Germany and Italy. Their leaders are to meet in Canada on June 8-9.

The official said they expect a strong and united G7 message to North Korea to deliver a complete, verifiable and irreversible de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula if the current sanctions pressure is to be gradually lifted.

Meanwhile, the US-North Korea Singapore Summit will be held in Singapore on 12th of this month. Last month, Trump had suddenly canceled the meeting after North Korean statements in which they threatened not to attend the summit. Soon thereafter, the North Korean leaders said they were ready to meet anytime and anywhere. Trump on May 24 sent a letter to Kim, saying that their planned meeting will not happen.

North Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan had said his country is ready to sit down with the United States anytime in any manner for talks to solve the problems existing between them.
