Dr Hedgewar a great son of Mother India: Pranab Mukherjee

Nagpur, June 8: Before moving to the much-awaited concluding ceremony of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) 'Tritiya Varsha Sangh Shiksha Varg', former President Pranab Mukherjee marked his presence at the birthplace of RSS founder Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, situated in Mahal area of Nagpur.

On his arrival, Dr. Mukherjee was greeted by Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat with a flower bouquet. On this occasion senior RSS functionaries were present.



During this short visit, Bhagwat briefed Mukherjee about the historical significance of the place from where the legendary Dr. Hedgewar had conceived the idea of RSS, the 93-year-old world’s biggest non-governmental organization. At this very place, Dr. Hedgewar along with his 17 colleagues resolved on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami in 1925 to unite the Hindu society.

On this occasion, hailing the contribution of RSS founder Pranab described Dr. Hedgewar as a “great son of Mother India’. “Today I came here to pay my respect and homage to a great son of Mother India,” he wrote in a visitor’s book at Hedgewar’s birthplace.

Later, the former President along with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat offered floral tributes to memorials of Dr. Hedgewar and Madhav Sadashiv Golvalkar popularly known as ‘Guruji’, the second Sarsanghchalak at Smriti Mandir in Resimbag premise.
