India on high alert! IMD issues #RedWarning over heavy rainfall in coastal areas

New Delhi, June 8: Showers of bliss and contentment definitely brought smiles on faces as people got rid of the scorching heat. Monsoon hitting places have surely got people on their toes to be safe and look forward to taking even major steps for safety. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red warning claiming heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over south Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka.

Taking cognizance of the areas where the rainfall is likely to create havoc it is seen that the coastal areas are kept on high alert. Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Goa, some parts of south Maharashtra, remaining some parts of Telangana, some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and West Central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

 

 

Due to increasing rainfall from heavy to very heavy rainfall, the western belt of the coastal region is likely to expect heavy rainfall from 8-11 June. Issuing warning and alerts the IMD has said that the squall winds would also affect the places and would hit the southern parts of Kerala-Karnataka, Maharashtra coast.

 

Mumbai is set to face heavy rain with the weather forecast expecting monsoon to hit the city in 48 hours, at least three days before schedule. The weather office has predicted, "really heavy rains" that will "affect normal life" in Mumbai beginning Thursday.

According to Skymet CEO, Jatin Singh, “Sustained heavy raining will be coming for a week starting on the 6th of June. (June) 8/9/10 can be extremely heavy. Warnings should be issued now. Just stay indoors."

However, it is noted that good rain and thundershowers continued over Southern parts of Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra. In fact, moderate to heavy rainfall also occurred over Vidarbha region of Maharashtra during the same time frame.
