JK police arrested four drug peddlers from different areas of valley; recovers huge quantity of heroin, poppy straw

Srinagar, June 9: Continuing its crackdown on drug peddlers, Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday apprehended four men for different areas of the valley with drugs in their possession. This is a major success for Jammu and Kashmir police under 'Operation Sanjeevani'. Notably, Pakistan uses terrorism and drugs as a primary tool to exploit youth of Jammu and Kashmir and disturb the stability of the country.

 

Firstly, police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 55 packets of dried poppy (fukki) during a raid in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. A police official said that acting on a specific input, police party led by DySP Headquarters Anantnag, Burhan Kanth acting on specific information raided a residential complex in Prakashpora Anchidoora area of Anantnag and recovered 55 packets of dried poppy (fukki) and arrested the accused person from the spot.

The official further added that the team was accompanied by Naib Tehsildar Anantnag and in this regard a case FIR No 93/2018 stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and further investigation is going on.

Later in the day, at least three drug peddlers were arrested along with 16 grams of heroin valuing Rs 1.60 lakh from Jakheni area by Udhampur Police. According to the sources, a police team led by SHO Udhampur Inspector Vijay Choudhary and assisted by SI Rahul Mahajan made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Udhampur Kulbir Handa and Incharge SSP Udhampur Faisal Qureshi.

A police official said, “The arrested persons have been identified as Shabeek Ahmed alias Shiku, son of Mohammad Iqbal of Kheri, district Udhampur, Shakeel Ahmed, son of Manjoor Ahmed of Jakheni, district Udhampur and Sunny Sharma, son of Ashok Sharma of Railway Road Katra, district Reasi.”

“A case under FIR Number 253/18 under Section 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment,” he added.

A week earlier, Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and seized 140 kg of poppy straw. Earlier, in March this year, Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor police arrested two drug peddlers and seized heroin valuing Rs 67 lakh from their possession. Over hundreds of drug peddlers were arrested last year by Jammu and Kashmir police. In the year 2017, JK police also seized tonnes of drugs including charas, bhang, fukki, poppy straw and brown sugar etc.

In the year 2016, 312 drug peddlers were arrested with tonnes of drugs. According to the official figure, 64 kilograms of charas, 7.5 kilograms of charas powder, 194 kilograms of bhang and bhang dust, 925 kilograms of fukki, 915 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.75 kilograms of brown sugar were seized in the year 2016 from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, in the year 2015 police had registered 375 cases and arrested 442 people and 13 others have been booked under PSA.
