Beijing, June 9: Smiling faces and excited Indian diaspora in China welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi with extreme enthusiasm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Qingdao in China to attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or SCO summit. Apart from attending the regional summit, PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with heads of several countries. PM Modi will have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Prime Minister Modi and President Xi will take stock of the implementation of decisions taken at an informal summit last month in China's Wuhan. PM Modi will hold nearly half a dozen bilateral meetings at the SCO summit.

On the eve of SCO Summit, Secretary General, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Rashid Alimov calls on the PM Narendra Modi. SCO Secretary-General said that India is contributing greatly to the organization since it became a full member of SCO in 2017. This will be India’s first participation as a full member of the 8 nation SCO grouping which includes China and Russia as its members.

PM Modi will explore ways to deepen ties in areas of trade and investment besides reviewing the overall bilateral cooperation. Prime minister will also attend a banquet today to be hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On the other hand, the SCO General Secretary Rashid Alimov is preparing to hold the summit in a 'Eurasian G8" format which would "determine the new trajectory of the organization's further development, taking into account significant changes in the system of international relations and increased global threats and challenges."

The Qingdao summit is expected to confirm the Shanghai spirit of inclusivity and cooperation among member countries. This will be India’s first participation as a full member after joining the grouping last year, which also includes China and Russia as its members.
