BSF, JK police jointly arrests six drugs smugglers along with 12 packets of brown sugar and arms near LoC

Srinagar, July 10: Security forces on Monday arrested six drugs smugglers along with 12 packets of brown sugar, 2 AK-56 rifles and live magazines near the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector of Kupwara district. Notably, Pakistan uses terrorism and drugs as a primary tool to exploit youth of Jammu and Kashmir and disturb the stability of the country.

 

Based on a specific information, Jammu and Kashmir Police and personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) have arrested six drugs smugglers near the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector of Kupwara district. At least 12 packets of brown sugar, 2 AK-56 rifles and live magazines were recovered from the arrested drug smugglers.

A police official said that a special team of Karnah Police Station assisted by the 124th battalion of BSF laid a check post at Sadpora in Karnah and intercepted two Sumo vehicles. "During the search, around 12 kgs of contraband substance was recovered from the possession of six people," a police official added.

In the last month, Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur police arrested a drug peddler and seized 140 kg of poppy straw. In the year 2016, 312 drug peddlers were arrested with tonnes of drugs. According to the official figure, 64 kilograms of charas, 7.5 kilograms of charas powder, 194 kilograms of bhang and bhang dust, 925 kilograms of fukki, 915 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.75 kilograms of brown sugar were seized in the year 2016 from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, in the year 2015 police had registered 375 cases and arrested 442 people and 13 others have been booked under PSA.
