Rename Jammu airport after Raja Hari Singha; Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh writes to Modi

New Delhi, July 10: Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Karan Singh urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rename Jammu airport as Raja Hari Singh airport.

In an official communication, the former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has suggested central government to change the name of Jammu airport as Raja Hari Singh airport.

According to media reports, recounting the historical chronicles, former Rajya Sabha mentioned that under Maharaja Hari Singh, the Jammu airport was constructed.

He opined that recognizing Maharaja’s contribution for the Himalayan state, BJP led Central government should clear the desk for long pending demand.

The veteran leader also underlined the recent move of reaming Tripura airport after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya.

Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the crucial Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947. He was instrumental in bringing several social welfares and developmental in the Himalayan state.

A prominent Dogra leader, Karan Singh is the son of  Maharaja Hari Singh.
