As Mumbai drenched in heavy rainfall, Mumbaikars have a reason to rejoice; know what!

Mumbai, July 10: As the water rolls over, Mumbai has been drenched in rains to such an extent that schools and colleges have shut down. The Indian Railways has also been affected but as they say ‘the show must go on,’ the trains are working but unfortunately are running slow.

After all this, there is no need for remorse or feel dull, the city has something to rejoice over after continuous heavy rainfall in the last couple of days. The civic body stated that it is the result of heavy rainfall since June, the lake overflowed early this year giving some relief to the Mumbaikars. The Tulsi lake is one of the seven lakes that supply potable water to Mumbai.

The monsoon hit the city on June 10 and till July 8; the city has already received 54 % of the total rainfall it gets in the period of June to September. The last monsoon up to July 8, 2017, the city had recorded 711 mm rainfall in Santacruz weather station and this year it is 1362 mm. While Colaba weather station had recorded had 594 mm and this year it is 1190 mm of rainfall.

 

It has been estimated that Mumbai city requires 3800 million liters (ml) of water daily. Apart from Tulsi lake, the other six lakes which provide potable water to the city are Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Bhatsa, and Vehar.

 

With the second day drenching in rains, Mumbaikars seem like enjoying the cozy weather. As the streets get wet in water, the flowers rejoice to blossom, all cheers to the spirit of Mumbaikars. The Twitterati is all hailing the spirit of moving out in rain to head to their respective works, the transport facilities have extended their support with an undoubted effort.

 

Railways have been affected but with all due respect to the motormen, the trains have been able to give the people all support and have truly lived up to the tag “Mumbai’s lifeline” for traveling.
