PM Modi and S Korea Prez Moon Jae-in bridge digital connectivity by inaugurating largest Samsung factory in India

New Delhi, July 10: Asserting that India ranks second in the world for manufacturing of mobile phones, with the number of mobile phone manufacturing factories in four years, this has created lakhs of job opportunities. Undertaking the digital technology concept to next level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of South Korea Moon Jae-in jointly inaugurated a large mobile manufacturing facility of Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd, at Noida.

Seeping in the digital layer in every nook and corner, the Modi government left no stones unturned in making their dream of Digital India come true. Samsung’s 35-acre Noida factory will be the world’s largest with a claim of 120 million mobile phones per year. The current capacity of Samsung’s mobile manufacturing plant in Noida is around 67 million mobiles, which includes smartphones and feature phones.

Addressing the gathering, South Korean President Moon Jae recalled the decades-long relations between India and South Korea and said that India and Korea can are now riding the digital wave to achieve growth.


Addressing the occasion, Prime Minister Modi asserted the event to be a special one making India a global manufacturing hub. The journey has been one of the most revoking and game-changing as the investment of Rs 5000 crore would strengthen Samsung’s business links with India. Along with this, it will also be significant in the context of the relationship between India and Korea.

This Samsung unit is the world's largest mobile unit. It isn't a surprise that South Korean giant chose India to set up this unit. There are nearly 40 crore smartphone users here and with Prime minister Modi's Digital India revolution, the number is growing exponentially.

The two leaders went around the plant and interacted with workers on the floor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India's growing economy and the burgeoning Neo Middle Class provides vast opportunities for investment.

Noting that digital technology makes common man’s life simple through faster and more transparent service delivery, PM Narendra Modi pushed the need to develop and grow the digital technology in India. PM Modi also spoke of the expansion of smartphones, broadband and data connectivity, which he labeled as signs of a digital revolution in India. In this context, he also spoke of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), growth of digital transactions, BHIM App, and RuPay cards.

This has benefitted medium and small entrepreneurs resulting in transparency in public procurement. Be it paying for electricity-Water bills, school college admissions, PF and Pension, nearly all such services are being provided online. Nearly 3 lakh common service centers across the country are working serving the villagers.

PM Modi said the ‘Make in India’ initiative is not just an economic policy measure, but also a resolution of better ties with friendly nations such as South Korea. He said that there is an open invitation for businesses across the world, who wants to take advantage of the transparent business culture of New India. Further PM Modi said India’s growing economy, and rising neo-middle class, create immense investment possibilities.

 

The Prime Minister asserted that through this new mobile manufacturing facility, the combination of Korean technology, and Indian manufacturing and software support would provide excellent products for the world. He described this as the strength and the shared vision of both countries.
