London, July 10: Taking a step forward, India’s Divij Sharan and his New Zealand partner Artem Sitak on Monday swiftly entered into the quarterfinals of Men's Doubles at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships being held in London. This is the first time when Divij Sharan has reached the Grand Slam quarterfinals in his career.

Notably, Divij Sharan and his Kiwi team-mate Artem Sitak defeated Israeli-Polish combination of Jonathan Erlich and Marcin Matkowski by 1-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 which lasted three hours and 50 minutes. However, it is a second consecutive win where Sharan and Sitak erased a two-set deficit to eke out a five-set thrilling win. They will next play to American seeded Mike Bryan and Jack Sock for a place in semi-finals.

Talking to media after registering a hard-fought win, Divij Sharan said, "It was a mental battle out there. Even though we lost first two sets, we believed we could still win. We fought really hard and stayed strong mentally through the last three sets. There were many games where we were serving and were down but we played big and came back to hold those games." "There was a lot of support for us from our respective teams and fans and that also helped," he added.

In the Women's single, Serena Williams raced into her 13th Wimbledon quarter-final as the seven-time champion thrashed Russian qualifier Evgeniya Rodina 6-2, 6-2 in just 62 minutes. In the Men's Singles, Roger Federer has entered the quarter-final. In the pre-quarter-final, Federer defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-0, 7-5, 6-4.
