New York, July 11: Lashing out on Pakistan's reference to a UN report on Kashmir at the Security Council, India on Tuesday said that the so-called report reflects clear bias and was not even found fit to be considered by the members of the human rights body where it was submitted.

Notably, the scathing statement from India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tanmaya Lal comes a day after Pakistan raked up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at a session of United Nation. Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Maleeha Lodhi referred to the June 14 report on Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein during a Security Council debate on Children and Armed Conflict.

Replying to this, Tanmaya Lal lambasted both UN and Pakistan saying, “The so-called report about the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir reflects the clear bias of an official who was acting without any mandate whatsoever and relied on unverified sources of information.” “The report was not even found fit to be considered by the membership of the forum where it was submitted," he added.

With Pakistan repeatedly raking up the Kashmir issue at various UN sessions and platforms, Lal said, "Such deliberate self-serving attempts by Pakistan seek to obfuscate the reality of their own use of terror organisations to undermine state sovereignty and such attempts have not succeeded in the past in any forum and will not do so now.”

Last week, India described Pakistan as a "hub of terrorism" in South Asia and beyond, saying "cynical" attempts by it to spread a false narrative about Kashmir have been unsuccessful after Pakistan made a reference to Kashmir.

On June 14 this year, the 49-page report issued by the UN on the human rights situation in Indian-Administered and Pakistan-Administered Kashmir – detailed human rights violations and abuses on both sides of the Line of Control, and highlights a situation of chronic impunity for violations committed by security forces.

External Affairs Ministry slammed United Nations for a report in which it has called for a probe into alleged human rights violations in Kashmir by both India and Pakistan and questioned the intentions of the organization.
