Addressing the media, the Union Minister reassured that center will take all possible steps to ensure the hassle-free implementation of Polavaram. Underlining the importance of water, Gadkari stated that Polavaram irrigation project would give a new life to farmers of Andhra Pradesh. He maintained that Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is committed towards completion of this mega project.
Commenting on the strained relationship between BJP and TDP over Polavaram, the Minister said that one should not mix developmental activities and politics. He promised that the state government will not face any financial crunch and contentious issues will be addressed soon. The Irrigation Minister hoped that proposed venture would be completed by February 2019. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu requested center to clear all the hurdles in completing the national irrigation project.
In 2014 under the AP reorganization act, center accorded national status to the mega irrigation project. The project will address the long pending issue of water scarcity in the coastal state, especially in the Rayalaseema region.
