Agartala, July 12: Conceding to encompass a paperless system by initiating digital technology, the state of Tripura has taken a step forward in the race to become a modern state. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated an e-gazette notification website giving a space for the new digital working system.

Addressing the gathering, CM Biplab Deb said his government was stressing on digitization for higher accountability and to transform Tripura into a modern, model state. The digital wave swayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeping in, in all states giving a new frame to good and transparent governance.

The state has started e-stamping, e-tendering, e-chaupals, WiFi at villages apart from other moves of digitization. This move will save paper which will save the environment, time and expenses which will guarantee accountability and credibility in the working pattern of the officials. He said online government services were available during the erstwhile Left Front rule but the systems were not regularly updated and were often of no use to the people.

Changing the attitude of accepting change the website gives new prospect generating new ideas. The previous old cabinet had been reflected in a website even one month after the new government assumed office. If anyone wants to work on tourism or Information Technology (IT), he would have seen Manik Sarkar as chief minister or Badal Choudhury (former revenue minister) still in their former positions. This will dishearten interested parties.

The Chief Minister urged the officials to work with ‘e-mentality’ that meant punctuality in managing the online systems of government. The Chief Minister further added that it's not that Tripura did not have government websites before (during the Left Front rule) but many of those websites were not updated. They were often not updated for three to four months, some even for a year. He also asked the officials, especially the principal secretaries, to keep a strong watch and make sure all the systems were updated on time.

Adding that government officials should make it a point to ensure digitized government services attract people, Biplab Deb pointed out saying that the Left Front government was claiming that e-PDS services were not applicable to villagers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a village boy himself, who started the mission of digitizing government services. Any change does have a few problems in the beginning. But it takes off eventually.

The e-gazette notification website was jointly launched by the department of general administration printing and stationary and National Informatics Centre.
