Heavy rains create havoc in Uttarakhand: Kills eleven, washes off several roads, brings stagnation to life

Dehradun, July 12: The rainy season in Uttarakhand has started scaring people. Due to continuous and heavy rain, the water level of the rivers has started increasing. At the same time, there is a continuation of the closure of roads. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in the next 24 hours.


 

In Uttarakhand, since the last morning, rain has created havoc. Seven people were killed in Dehradun. Four of them were buried under the walls. At the same time, three people had fallen in different parts of the rainy streams. Pithoragarh and Bageshwar’s Kapkot were also damaged.

A suspension bridge at Pithoragarh's Nachani was also washed in heavy rains while roads have been damaged in Munsyari and Dharchula areas of the district. Highways in the state have also been blocked by landslides. National Highway-94, which connects Chamba and Rishikesh, has been blocked near Fakot and Bhinnu and road clearing operation was underway in affected areas. The Indian armed forces, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Border Security Force (BSF) have been pressed into rescue services.

 

CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, in his tweet, has given an assurance to the state’s people by saying, “Heavy rain in various areas of the State has affected life in some areas. Instructions for providing help and restoring connectivity to the affected people are given to the authorities. The teams of SDRF have been placed on alerts to deal with any emergencies.”
