Finland, July 16: Two superpowers the United States and Russia are all set to exchange their ideas and possibilities of positive future prospects. The much-awaited summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has finally seen the light of the day as both the leaders will meet at Finland.

After months of exchanging long-distance compliments, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin meet for a potential political ordeal at home for the US president but a geopolitical win for his Russian counterpart. The two leaders are expected to be welcomed by Finnish President Sauli Niinisto to the Presidential Palace in Helsinki on Monday afternoon.

The bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled to start in the afternoon followed by a joint press conference. Neither side expects major revolutions from the talks in the Finnish capital beyond warm words, an agreement to begin repairing battered US-Russia relations, and maybe a deal to start talks on issues such as nuclear arms control and Syria.

The meeting came in the midst of tensions between Russia and the West in issues concerning Iran, Syria, and Crimea, as well as the unprecedented alienation between the US and its trans-Atlantic allies over trade and defense.

Helsinki has beefed up security for this event, with increased police patrolling around the city. Speaking in Brussels on July 12 following the NATO summit, Trump said he hoped the Helsinki talks would improve relations but stressed it would be "just a loose meeting. We go into that meeting not looking for so much," Trump said. "We want to find out about Syria."

The president is our most experienced negotiator elected president in recent years. Putin similarly is a very experienced negotiator. Putin is an intelligence operative. They’re both very experienced and wise to the world as stated by the US and Russian ministerial counterparts.
