Surprise! Ahead of the monsoon session, All Party Meeting assures support and smooth conduct of proceedings

New Delhi, July 17: Clubbing together to ensure support and backing over the discussions, an all-party meeting was held in New Delhi ahead of the Monsoon Session. The meeting ensured to seek opposition's support for the smooth conduct of proceedings in both the houses of the parliament.

The Indian government convened the meeting Tuesday aiming to hold discussions with leaders of various political parties ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of parliament. The Monsoon session of the parliament has been scheduled to commence from July 18 and will continue till August 10. The monsoon session will have 18 sittings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel, Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and CPI leader D Raja were among those who attended the meeting.

 

Giving top priority to ‘Triple Talaq Bill’, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is pending in the Rajya Sabha, the government pitches to pass it. The government will also push for constitutional status for the National Commission for OBCs.

Other bills including National Medical Commission Bill and Transgender persons (Protection of Rights) Bill will also be taken up during the session. The election to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha will also be held during the session as the term of P J Kurien is ending this month.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought the cooperation of all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during its Monsoon session. Talking to the media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that all parties have assured the government of their cooperation.

Hearing to the issues of all the members in the meeting, PM Modi assured that all the points will be discussed in the session and a united decision will help in solving the mentioned issues. Interestingly the opposition party on Monday tabled a meeting to corner the government.

The official speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan will hold the discussions with the leaders of opposition parties in the evening to ensure smooth functioning of the session and passing of various pending bills.

Assuring smooth meeting and giving full support to the government, the monsoon session will hopefully see new resolutions and remarkable developments in shaping the country.
