Kochi, July 17: Continuing to save humanity and lives, the Indian Navy on Tuesday rescued two crew members stranded inside an Indonesian floating dock which got grounded off at Thottappally beach in Kerala’s Alappuzha district.

Notably, the floating dry dock, Al Fattan, coming from Sabang in Indonesia was heading to Abu Dhabi, unfortunately, got grounded off in Thottappally beach on Sunday. After getting a request for assistance from Coastguards, Indian navy launched the rescue operation and saved two crew members stranded inside.

Detailing the rescue operation, a Navy Spokesperson said that an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) from Indian Naval Air Squadron 322 was launched by Southern Naval Command to evacuate the Indonesian crew members. “They were brought to INS Garuda and handed over to Coast Guard and civil administration for emigration formalities,” the spokesman said.

The Spokesperson further said that the rescue operation was not easy due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions. Strong winds and rain were a major impediment in operations at sea. “The spokesman also said the operation was an example of jointmanship as the rescue operation was carried out on the request of Coast Guard,” he concluded.

In June, Indian Navy evacuated the precious lives of 38 countrymen from Socotra Island in Yemen where they got stuck after cyclone Mekenu hit the area in the last week of May.
