8 Maoists including 3 women gunned down by security forces in Chhattisgarh; number may rise

Raipur, July 19: In Chhattisgarh, security forces have gunned down 8 Maoists, including 3 women rebel, in Dantewada district of Bastar region today.


 

Additional Superintendent of police- Naxal Operations, Gorakhnath Baghel confirmed the incident. Following specific inputs about the presence of Maoists a joint team of District Reserve Group- DRG and Special Task Force- STF had launched an intensive search operation in the area.

The encounter took place in the forest of Timenar near the border of Bijapur district during early morning hours today. The bodies of 8 Maoists were recovered from the spot. Security forces also recovered six rifles.

"After guns fell silent, bodies of seven Naxals, including three women, were recovered from the spot," the DIG said.

Besides, two Insas rifles, two-point-303 rifles, one 12 bore gun and a few muzzle loading guns were also recovered from the spot, he said.

Further details are awaited as the search operation was still underway in the area, he added.

Recently, In the Maoist-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, security forces had got big success in an encounter. During an encounter in Dantewada district, the security forces had killed three Naxalites.

And also, Chhattisgarh was successful to wipe out two Maoists who were killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Bastar division. The State Police said a joint team of Special Task Force and District Reserve Group was on a search operation in Chintagufa area when Maoists ambushed the team.
