India’s ‘The Wall’ joins ICC Hall of Fame

Dublin, July 2: legendary batsmen and former Indian Skipper Rahul Dravid has been nominated for the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame. Dravid will be the fifth Indian cricketer to be inducted to the international forum.

Expressing happiness over the development, Dravid who did not attend the ceremony due to coaching commitments of India A team in a Video statement released by ICC thanked the apex cricketing body for the prestigious Hall of Fame.  On this occasion, Australian captain Ricky Ponting and English batswoman Claire Taylor were also inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame.

"I am thankful to the ICC for giving me this honor. It is a privilege to be among a group of people I have looked up to and I have admired as a young man growing up in the journey as a cricketer. I'd love to be able to thank so many people who have made it possible for me to have a career in the sport and to fulfill my dreams."

A brilliant slip fielder and a wicketkeeper, Dravid is considered as the master player of test cricket. with his mighty batting style, he scored 13,288-run in test cricket. In one-day format also the former India captain proved his mettle with 10,889 runs which include 12 centuries. In 2004, he was chosen for the ICC Cricketer of the Year as well as the ICC Test Player of the Year.

Earlier, veteran Indian players like Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble were chosen for the ICC Hall of Fame, After Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid will be the second player from Karnataka to enter into the elite platform of ICC.
