New Delhi, July 2: Senior journalist Rajat Sharma beat former cricketer Madan Lal by 517 votes to become the new president of Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA). The results of the DDCA polls were announced today and Sharma's group swept the elections winning all 12 seats.

BCCI acting President CK Khanna's wife Shashi lost the vice-presidential battle against Rakesh Bansal, younger brother of former DDCA president Sneh Bansal.

The defeat might prove to be the end of the road for Khanna in DDCA, where he enjoyed supreme power for nearly three decades.

In his tweet, Rajat Sharma said, “I thank all members of #DDCA who voted in the elections and reposed their trust in us. I now invite all the members to join hands to bring about transparency in the functioning of #DDCA”

Earlier last month when Rajat had announced the name of candidates of his faction for the DDCA elections, he had said, "I want to bring glory back to DDCA. DDCA has given world class players like Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra and many others. I want to ensure that this process continues. Our young cricketers get better facilities, efficient coaching, and transparency in selection. I will have a time-bound plan to improve infrastructure and the ground facilities. Players, members, and visitors should get a world class experience when they come to Feroz Shah Kotla. I think that a leader should have the vision, will and the strength to get the decisions implemented. I believe in selfless and sincere service to work. And it will change the DDCA for better."
